I’m about to dive into replacing some rusted components (69 convertible), and am not sure where to start. I need to replace the complete driver’s side rear frame rail, the complete floor pan, the driver’s side toe pan, front torque boxes, and the trunk side dropoffs. Since everything is connected to everything else, I’m not sure where to start. Remove and replace rear frame rail, then remove the old floor and front torque boxes? Remove everything at the outset and start with a clean slate? It seems like removing/replacing one thing at a time would be better in terms of keeping things stable. Advice from people who have been there, done that? Thanks in advance for any insights.
Step one is to install braces in the door jams/pillars front to back and side to side welding them in is best. Then measure door openings in several spots and keep those numbers for future reference when going back together.
Wow, that looks like a LOT of skills, that I don’t have.
Hi!
I just came to this thread, I did all this and I never weld before so I think everybody can do this.
The first that I did is removes the rear suspension and a make jig with all the attachments point from the frame and then remove one thing at the time and reinstalled the rocker panel then the complete rear frame rail, then the floor pan, etc…
If you need pictures of the process let me know.
Have a great day,
