After cleaning up the rust on my shock tower area, I’m left with the question of repair or replace. So who has done which?
This is what I have.
I was in a similar situation, and replaced both the frame rail and the shock tower with reproduction parts.
Midlife, those are my thoughts. Any advice or tips? How did your installation go? My main concern is keeping everything square. Well, back to square as my PS tower has crept in about 1/2".
I had an excellent export brace that I used to help line things up. I did one piece at a time. Once a part was out, the rest of the car stayed in its current shape, so it was relatively easy to tack weld the parts in just prior to welding it for good. If the engine bay is sagging, my suspicion is that there’s a lot more rot somewhere that you’re not seeing. Here’s my build pictures of the frame rail:
I also have an export brace to install, but it won’t fit due to the sag. But the rust seems to only be in tower and the frame rail under. Fore and aft seems solid
Get the export brace to fit before you replace any metal!
