Front Mercury emblem

My mercury hood emblem is broken a bit and I have a replacement but I can’t figure out how to get it off… I’ve looked on the back and there is no holes for the mounting bolts… Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What year?

1973 it’s the mercury emblem on the hood…

If it’s stuck on with emblem adhesive tape you can use dental floss to saw it loose.

Thank you … The replacement has studs do I cut them off and use tape if so do you have a suggestion?

Your old one has pins on it. Use a new flexible steel putty knife and take your time. I just replaced the broken one on my 71 XR-7. Same part. I also polished the area while the trim was off.

The rear one on 71/73 are held on with adhesive tape. The front one has 4 pins.

I bought one from eBay it’s a NOS item. When I replace it do the pins hold themselves in place without any nuts… Thanks

There are inserts generally called Barrel Nuts that are pushed into the holes in the hood then the emblem pins are lined up and pushed into the inserts. Installation done.

Thank you so much… I’m going to check with the auto parts store and see if they have barrel nuts if not I’ll order some…

Your original ones are probably still in place and usable.
