Front Valance License Plate Bracket

What color should the front license plate bracket/holder be on first generation Cougars? Is it body color to match each cars paint or a plain metal anodized finish or something else?
Steven

Gonna say something else. Chassis black.

Same color as the core support bumper brackets and all other surrounding parts.

So, would that be slop gray? Or maybe it depends on the year?

…I thought the '70 plate bracket and bumper brackets were slop gray, but I could be mis-remembering.

Mine was weathered “chassis” black. (Kinda like the ram air lid). :poke:

Hmm. Mine was body color…probably from a re-paint, though. PO had an Earl Scheib job on it.

We used to joke about “Earl Scheib and his Magic Broom.”

Is there any rattle can spray that approximates “chassis” black?

Krylon Satin Black or SEM chassis black.

Doesn’t Eastwood sell chassis black in rattle cans?

Scott and Don I believe you guys have hit the nail on the head. The back side of my license plate holder is black while the front is red/orange (super bad color change paint job).

Top Cat is originally a M code Polar White car so the black paint threw me off. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

SEM is a great paint. VHT makes a nice semi gloss chassis black that you can get at any AutoZone
