Hello! I’m replacing the fuel pump on my 4 bbl 302 and need some help as to what to do. I got the pump off but all replacements at local part stores seem to only be tailored to a 2 bbl. I picked one up and tried to put it in but it didn’t fit properly whatsoever, so I scrapped that idea. However I can’t seem to find any new 4 bbl ones. I tried to find it under the Mustang category but found that the pumps do not interchange with each other even though engines are the same? Any suggestions? Thank you!
The factory fuel pump was the same between 2V and 4V.
When you say the replacement didn’t fit, what was the problem?
Were the inlet/outlet fittings not correct?
Or did you have problems mounting the pump?

Cougarsunlimited is right, the pump is the same for all carburetors on that block. My guess is that you are struggling to get the pump to mount because the cam eccentric is at max lift, so the bolts don’t want to line up. You can spin the motor a bit manually, or just put a lot more pressure on the actuating arm as you get it into place and torque it down until the pump flushes with the block.
