Yesterday, I went to a car show I had never been to before. 1 and 1/2 hours away from home but on the lake and a fundraiser for the local sheriff’s department. Less than 100 cars there but beautiful setting.
I got there a tad early and picked a spot with a little shade. I got registered and saw a better spot closer to the water with a great breeze and over by a 60s Mustang convertible and a Thunderbird convertible. Both were beautiful cars. I decided to move over with my Ford brethren.
Late during the show, a guy pulls in with a white Shelby GT500 with blue stripes that just about match my 70 Competition Blue Eliminator. He’s pulling inside beside me and he slings the door open hurriedly and yells, “I’ll trade you dead even right NOW!” I laughed and said, “Nah, I’m good.” He yells back, “I’m driving a Shelby and you don’t even know what all I’ve done to it.” I politely replied, “I know where to get one on those. Do you know where to get one of these?” He scratched his head and said, “OK, I see your point.”
On another cool note, I’m used to always being the only Cougar at the show but I saw a 71-73 pulling in while the wife and I were walking around. By the time I got back around to my car there was a little old lady looking mine over and she was wearing a Cougar t shirt. We’ve asked, are you driving the Gold Cougar that just pulled in? She was. It was a 73 and her dad had bought it new and she had kept it all these years. She said it still only had about 90k miles on it and she only drove it to car shows. She looked to be in her 70s and was super nice. We talked several more times during the day and it’s great hearing stories like that!
