i enjoy a yearly 1000 mile trip with the Cougar. Missed a couple of trips in the first 3 years, but am now on track.
Last year, my kid brother gave me hell for not carrying fuse replacements, in case. We happened to blow one, and had to solder a blade fuse to the bad one, not being able to find a new one.
if I’m not mistaken, a '68 is supposed to have:
3 x sfe14a
1 x aga2.5a
1 x sfe7.5a
1 x sfe15a (in line)
i do believe i will have to convert to blade fuses, because of the sparsity of 12v quick blow fuses. Any ideas?
to get by the 2.5amp problem, would going to 3 amps be taking a chance.
I most certainly will not stop making the yearly 1000 mile round way trip with the Cougar. A little insurance would help though.Sticking a metal object to replace a blown fuse just isn’t going to happen.
note that this summer, suspension will be done on all 4 corners, in order to stuff the Cragars back in there.
ps, the Ottawa Parliament is somewhere behind those trees… The pics with the brother show it
There is a cross reference chart at: http://www.mcmaster.com/#fuses/=12e6vp6
I did not see AGA type fuses, but in the left hand column you can select fuses by rating and size and hopefully find a match.

Yeah, glass fuses are getting scarce. I order them by the 100’s from Fuses Unlimited, but they are still available. If you only need one or two, let me know. Each fuse is $1 plus shipping. Every harness I refurbish gets a new set of fuses, and I have every fuse Mustangs or Cougars used throughout the vintage years.
Sure can. That e-flasher fuse is not used on Cougars, IIRC. PM me with your address and I’ll give you a PayPal account.
The 20 amp fuses I’m using are SFE20. That’s one nice-looking fuse box and clips, although I don’t like the wire addition at the bottom left of the picture.
That is the power lead from an aftermarket radio with a digital tuner. It supplies power to keep the memory and clock going when the key is turned off.
I am surprised to hear that…I still have the original stock AM/FM stereo radio installed. As far as I know, there has never been an aftermarket radio and the yellow wire is not stripped at the other end. Almost as if someone attached it but never got around to installing anything.
