Good afternoon, i have a 70 that I am swapping in a non-CA tank. I have a 69 filler neck. Can this be made to work, or am I forced to find
an elusive 70 filler neck?
1969 filler neck with 20 gallon fuel tank.
1970 filler neck with 22 gallon fuel tank.
Thank you CougarCJ. That sucks. I just bought a 22 gallon tank.
I was hoping there was a simple modification. Its never easy with these cars.
I got everything to line up OK between my 22 gallon tank and 69 filler neck. No cutting.
Thanks sfhess! That is good to hear! Hopefully I can drop in the new tank tomorrow and see if I can get close.
I just want to be functional.
I think you can make it work, please report back with your results!
I just made a deal to buy a '70 low fuel sender core that is correct for '79 Eliminator or XR7. The 22 gallon tank requires a unique sender.
Good afternoon … Thank you for the info xr7g428. I actually had a sender rebuilt by you through Scott, at Taylor Restorations. It works great!
The filler neck worked out. It is not perfect, but functional, and almost looks the part. Thanks for the comments and assistance.
So I changed out my 1970 CA emissions non-vented 20 gal tank for a 1970 22 gal vented tank. The original fuel sender with low fuel thermistor seems to work the same as with original tank. Was there a different sender used for CA emissions?
It is the same sender for both.
I used the 1969 20-gallon sender in my 22-gallon tank. The gauge reads full for a while longer than it did with the 20-gallon tank, but otherwise reads accurately.
