Hi I’m French. I have a Cougar for over 3 years. It’s a 1967 Cougar Standard (code A). This car comes from montana.
I’ve already change the seal on rear axle and i would like change the gaskets. I bought the outer and the inner but i think it’s not the good part for inner.
They sold me the reference FEL PRO 55035 ?? The diameter is correct but it is steel gasket.
The low drop down area of the gasket is important if you’re axle seal leaks it directs the oil to the outside of the backing plate oppose inside where the brake shoes are, you probably already know that but if not I thought I’d offer it .
It has it nothing to do with the gasket, but you mentioned that the car came from Montana.
There was a Lincoln Mercury Dealer (Lesokovar L/M) in my Hometown of Butte Montana that became a Honda Dealer after L/M was no longer that was selling a low mileage 67 with a little body damage that had been owned by the Leskovar family since it was new.
I almost bought that car a few years back.
By chance is that your car?
Yes but it lines up with the drilled relief in the axel flange which is right on the edge so it’s open on the bottom and keeps any leaking oil in the retainer and it’s guided out the back .
