Gasket for Rear wheel backing plate

Hi I’m French. I have a Cougar for over 3 years. It’s a 1967 Cougar Standard (code A). This car comes from montana.
I’ve already change the seal on rear axle and i would like change the gaskets. I bought the outer and the inner but i think it’s not the good part for inner.

They sold me the reference FEL PRO 55035 ?? The diameter is correct but it is steel gasket.

My rear end is a 8 inch 28 splines

I need your advice.
What do you think

Thanks
Guillaume

This is what you need.https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Fel-Pro+55001

I think it’s gasket for outer ?? but for inner ?
Thanks Catlover

Here is the link for inner and outer.

Now you have two alike to pick from.

The low drop down area of the gasket is important if you’re axle seal leaks it directs the oil to the outside of the backing plate oppose inside where the brake shoes are, you probably already know that but if not I thought I’d offer it .

It has it nothing to do with the gasket, but you mentioned that the car came from Montana.
There was a Lincoln Mercury Dealer (Lesokovar L/M) in my Hometown of Butte Montana that became a Honda Dealer after L/M was no longer that was selling a low mileage 67 with a little body damage that had been owned by the Leskovar family since it was new.
I almost bought that car a few years back.
By chance is that your car?

Thank You Don Rush and Catlover.
I bought the outer (on the picture)

But the gasket made with paper is it better ??

For legendarylimeaz : Yes, the car came from Montana. The name of the first owner was Frank A. Scoville and he leaved at Lewistown Montana.

Salut Guillaume

Fellow French here - but living in the states.
Looks like the part you have is for 70+ cars. It seems that felpro has one for 67 under number 4828 but i’d rather go with the link from WCCC as you’d be sure of the fit.

Hope that helps.
I saw the photos you posted of your car a while back - looks great !

A plus

what was the felpro 55035 used for?

Hi, The Fel Pro 55035 was used for the ford 1970 to 1073 (8 or 9 inch)
I think the Fel Pro 4828 is the good part

Doesn’t the gasket with the drop down have to go with the bearing retainer? The axle bearing retainer is inside the backing plate.

Yes but it lines up with the drilled relief in the axel flange which is right on the edge so it’s open on the bottom and keeps any leaking oil in the retainer and it’s guided out the back .
