Gauge cluster foam seals

Working on replacing the under dash harness on my 67 STD. While the dash is apart I am installing LED lights in gauge cluster. While cleaning and working on the cluster I noticed the foam seals for the various lights and switches are in bad shape. I have poked around on WCCC, NPD, MU, CJPP and searched Google with no luck locating replacements. I swear I stumbled across them at one time. May have been a thread with someone’s work around. I cannot seem to locate anything. Does anyone have a source or a usable substitute?

One more question, I started removing the harness from the passenger side first. The first retainer holding the harness to the dash was a pita to remove. Next one is visible, appears will be even more difficult to get to. Should I just pull the dash pad out? I’m hoping doing so will give me access to wiring from the top in plades. Steering column still out from my attempt to install a Shelby GT steering wheel. :wall:

Now toying with replacing cowl and firewall insulation while everything is out.

I have used Craftsman tool box drawer lining to replace the foam pieces in the cluster.

You can get adhesive backed foam from your local craft store, it’s great for a lot of things like this. I used some to replace the seal on my defrost flapper door.
You might also try talking to Cleve here at WCCC, he’s our dash expert, and may have some of these original foam seals stashed somewhere. I kept mine in a little baggie and they’re in decent shape, hoping to reuse them.

Removing the top pad will not be of any real help to you as it sits on top of a metal dash frame. It sounds like you already have the instrument cluster out. Do you also have the passenger side of the plastic dash face out? That will help. Removing the glovebox and radio will also help.

I used the loop portion of self adhesive Velcro when I replaced my foam seals. It worked really well and I already had a roll in my shop so it was convenient for me to go that route.

Thanks for the replies! I was not able to locate the open cell? foam like the original. I did find some squishy closed cell? foam sheets I’m trying. I missed the offer to call WCCC before getting the foam I have. I did order a heater seal kit to try the foam in it for the gauge cluster. I do like the velcro idea!
