Glue in windshield

I am installing my windshield on my 69 Cougar and had a question about the headliner overlapping the pinch weld. I am assuming I need to remove enough to allow for metal contact with the Window Weld. How much should I remove without risking the headliner detaching?

Curious even though is does not apply to my car - how are windshields glued in on cars with vinyl tops?

69 and newer the headliner should not wrap around the pinch weld area. It should be glued to the underside and the trim across the top inside will cover that area.
As to the question about the vinyl top cars, the vinyl does not go below the windshield. The windshield is actually not glued in, it uses a Butyl seal that if I recall is 3/16" thick and 1/2 inch wide. I’m not sure that can be found these days. Are you going to do the gall install your self?

Oh yeah! I just found that trim piece I repainted and hid above the kitchen soffit out of harms way four years ago. If only I informed the installer about that piece before he put in the headliner. Fortunately, the center catch for sun visor is in so I can center the screw holes for the trim piece. I will check with installer about securing the headliner under the pinch weld. Will the trim piece hold in place? I could leave a little headliner still attached on the top of pinch weld without interfering with the urethane bead.

I am installing the glass myself with some help. Been doing lots of reading and watching youtubes. Any recommendations on media sources are welcome.

I am having a difficult time locating the corner holes for the trim piece at the windshield. The three middle screws are installed and it seems like it should be easy to locate the corner holes but no luck. Anybody have a photo of the corner with the headliner and trim out so I can see the hole orientation?

Pulled back some headliner in the corner and found the screw hole for the corner. Up higher than expected. Require a very short screw - 3/8" long I think. Got it done. I am going to leave about a 1/4" of the headliner on the edge of the pinch weld. Should not interfere with urethane bead.

Neil,

Checking to see if you have a tinted rear window for 1969/1970 that is in decent condition. Mine is extremely scratched up. I am looking into polishing but I would prefer to buy a good used window. It sounds like the reproductions do not fit well. WCCC has a Grade A clear in stock but no tinted.

I am in Oak Harbor so it would be a easy pick up. Plus, I would love to see your cougars.

The windshield is in but the gap between the trim and the glass in the top corners sucks. I think the glass has too much curve in the top corners. The trim fit perfect to the car all around and is tight across the top except for about 3 inches in each corner. The side trim tapers from a 1/4 gap from the window on the top corner to flush at the bottom. I cannot imagine that is normal but if the corners were high enough to contact the trim the top center of the windshield would bulge out a 1/4 inch.

With the glued in 70 style rear view mount I am also in the market for a 1970 rear view mirror. Sounds like the reproductions do not work well.

Let me know if you can help me out with the glass and mirror or have any good ideas.
