Gosh this is a beautiful '70!

In my opinion, at least.

I’m more of a '67-'68 guy, but this is one fine looking example at a pretty reasonable price. Who owns it, or used to own it, anybody know?

It is a nice looking Cougar. I always likes the Tobacco interior. The thing I wonder about is why is the pin striping missing from the drivers front extension? And who put that cheep rubber trunk mat in it? I would have to go look it over in person to confirm the mileage clams. But see nothing to make me think it isn’t true.

Very nice. Missing stripes was a good eye, and it would make me wonder also…

Yes, it’s nice. The pinstriping (amongst the other observations) tells me (at least) that it is a repaint.

I always thought those caps were an add on, did not realize they could be ordered from the factory. Cool! Learned something new!

Schmitt bought it at last month’s McCormick auction in Palm Springs. According to the auction website, they paid $17,588 for the car.

It seems that every auction a few cars slip sell at well below market price. I’ve had two friends sell cars at that auction only to have them turn up listed by Schmitt & Co on Ebay a few weeks later with a healthy markup. While they were grumpy when they saw their cars resold for a profit, neither one wanted to market their car online themselves.

My guess is that car is a well kept car with 100k plus miles… Look at the steering wheel, ALL the wood-grain has been worn off / mylar strip gone. The tilt column has been changed out (and they broke the plastic trim above it) with a black replacement, those columns are weak but they do not usually fail at under 50k miles. Notice the brake pedal pad is worn and shiny, missing the stainless surround. Also notice the PS fender does have the pin stripe on the extension, probably only that extension was damaged, might have spot paint elsewhere but I doubt the whole car has been repainted. NICE car but probably worth more in line of what was paid at auction as opposed to what is being asked at present.

I remember seeing a boss cat with those wheels a while back.
*I checked to see if I had a Marti for that boss, but I don’t. I checked my CbtN and I don’t even see that option listed for '70 - I wonder if they came with a certain wheel / tire combo?

I think it is interesting that it does not have the rubber hood gasket thing that would be on top of the radiator support. I thought the common theory was that AC cars got those to help keep air going through the radiator & AC heat exchanger.

Is the vinyl top actually green? It looks black, but that could just be my monitor / eyeballs.

Good lookin car! Nice “unmolested” appearance. Needs some repro plug wires though

Research that you requested indicates:
Rallye Wheel Cover. Ford part number D0WY-1130-B, for 14 x 6 wheels only.

Dave Wyras Pastel blue Boss 302 Cougar that he sold to Scott had the wheel cover option from the factory.

That’s cool! The invoice for that Boss shows it as: Wheel Covers - Rallye $15.60 / $12.30
That car also came with F70x14 Belted Traction Tires.

So the pastel boss makes 2 boss-cats that I’ve seen with them now. The other was comp gold.

I have a early 70 XR-7 convertible parts car that had them from hte factory acording to the Marti report. I had a set of them back in the mid 90s.

I would like to own a Grade A version of this cap so as to get it pictured on our site. Anyone?
