Hey guys just wanted to know if someone had a good video or walk through on how to properly grease ball joints. I’ve don’t it before but it seems like I always over fill them which end up as blown ball joint boots. When do you stop filling?
As soon as you see the boot move, STOP
That’s what I’ve done before but they still pop. Which side of the boot? When the suspension is in fool droop there is a tight side and a side that’s fully extended
Well, I’ve been greasing cars for 30 yrs and can tell you I have never popped a dust cover…lol
Either up or down, as soon as the boot movers,STOP!
Ok I will try it again. Just gotta have that touch as well I guess
Keep in mind that the repro upper arms have permanently greased ball joints, the hole for the zerk is just for show. I broke one zerk clean off trying to grease mine before I knew this (but was able to get the stub out and replace it). I was actually able to get grease into the joints but it was no easy feat (lots of pressure!). Just thought I would mention it in case you run into the same thing.
69XR7Vert,
Relatively new to this forum, been browsing for months, and wanted you to know something. I consider you one of the heavy hitters, and I’ve gained a ton of respect for your knowledge in Cougar lore. I’ve loved Cougars since they hit the streets when I was 9. I have a small block G and I
like the 1st gens best, but the 69 Eliminators trip my trigger too. You have a SWEET lookin cat! Hats off to you.
Ray.
