GT-E or XR7-G Hood scoop differences?

If this is the wrong section for posting please let me know but what is the difference between the two scoops?
And
What is the measurement between the scoop openings (inlets) on the front of the scoop?

Sorry to hijack this post but I am having difficulty deciding which style, GTE or XR-7G on my project. I would like to make the scoop functional. On the XR-7G I can see where simply removing the material between the grates is doable. What about the GTE scoop? Being fiberglass if I remove the recessed areas to make the scoop functional would the scoop become flimsy over the cutouts whereas the XR-7G style has the vertical grate supports?
Has anyone made either of these scoops functional? Would appreciate any feedback. Thank you, Jim R.

The both scoops can be made functional and it has been done in the past. One important thing to keep in mind is the fact that you need a ram-air air cleaner with a seal for the hood. If you don’t the scoop will only let hot air out of the engine compartment rather than forcing cooler air into the breather element.

Steven, thanks for the reply. Since the real Ram Air stuff is so expensive I was just going to foam seal my existing air cleaner housing with a smaller 14" chrome cover. Thanks for the input and sorry to the original poster for the hijack. Jim R

The measurement in question is 8 3/4” for both.

I have a Cougar with a cut out scoop. My conclusion is that the cut out area is too small and located too close to the hood to actually do anything. If you want a scoop that can work you need to look into the scoop used on the R code cars.

On my 1st GTE I opened up the scoop with no ill effects. I used a ram air air cleaner off another ford product. Shelby I think.
