I have just pulled my radiator for restoration and wanted to check on the markings on other GT-E radiators. The radiator in my car is 100% correct in every detail for 1968 Mustang/Cougar. The only marking on it though is ‘W-MO’ and a ‘Made in USA’ tag. From other forums, it seems that 68 radiators came from Modine and West Modine (W-MO), but most W-MO radiators were fitted to San Jose cars. The W-MO radiators apparently did not always have a FoMoCo logo embossed on the top.
How are your GT-E radiators marked? The W-MO marking is shown below
Have you looked at your 427 GT-E Parts List? Since all GT-Es came from Dearborn and not San Jose, if what you say is true about W Modine radiators going to San Jose production, then we would expect all GT-E radiators to be from Modine. That said, they should have the stampings indicated in the parts list.
Yes Jim, I checked the parts list and don’t see those numbers, just the W-MO stamp. I then checked the Shelby and 428 forums for more info. The radiator matches in every detail except the stamps, hence my question.
The 428 forum says ‘most’ went to San Jose cars.
Maybe a dealer replacement - OEM exact model radiator? The car lived in Sacramento area its entire kife.
The radiators I keep finding in unmolested GT-E’s have this date code on the top tank and a part number tag soldered to the top tank. This date code is December 1967.
The WMO marking in your picture does not look like any of the ones I have ever seen.
Thanks guys, that solves it. Must be rare car that is driven and still has its original radiator 47 years later. This one is good for the time being, I will add a date coded Modine C8ZZ-8005-C to my wants list. Although I am very close to resolving several of the missing original parts.
