Wow, just beat me to it Dave. I just read it, pretty good article.

15.12 @ 93 mph in the quarter is that correct? That Seems to slow to me…

One of his dozen or so Cougars he used to own is my G car.

Mebbe the one they tested had an open rear?

Thanks for the link Dave, cool article about a long-time Cougar guy - Way to go Hank! :bandit:

Dave thanks for posting the link. Pretty good write up on the GT-E. it’s great to see Cougars getting press. I liked the part about Cougars being rare and you see Mustangs everywhere.

Several boo boos in the article. 735cfm should 615cfm and 335hp should be 390hp. Also not all GTEs were XR7s so leather was not standard. Still good to see the big cat get some coverage !

Also it was stated that the heads were 428 cobra-jet, the heads were 427 low riser that were drilled and tapped for the exhaust similar to the 390 GT’s. The 428 did not come out until April .

Its is my understanding that some late 427s got the CJ manifolds.

Interesting, I wonder if Mr. Pinkerton has any info on this? If they would have added the 735 and 2 1/4 pipes then that cat would really have a set of claws.

The exhaust manifolds would depend on the heads. The 427 heads were not drilled properly for CJ manifolds. The carb does make a big difference in performance. The little 4 barrel is pretty small for a 427 that can easily turn 6000 rpm. I put a CJ carb on mine.

No 427 GT-Es came from the factory with 428 CJ exhaust manifolds.
