My Cougar was damaged one month ago, and as of this writing I’ve not seen a completed damage estimate or settlement check from Hagerty. Nor has their claims processing team provided useful, specific guidance on when to expect this claim to be finished
Am I being impatient or unrealistic here? I’ve had one insurance claim on my daily driver in the past, and it was done/dusted in 3 days.
It seems pretty shabby to make a customer wait a month with no guidance or info at all.
The only claim I ever had with Hagerty (which was a damaged wheel/tire) was dealt with quickly. But, I provided them pictures and cost/quote info for a new wheel/tire mounted/balanced/shipped, they did not even come out to see anything, they just paid.
I’ve had 2 claims with Haggerty and a tow when the distributor in the car failed.
Both of the damage claims were settled within a week after I sent in photos and a estimate, as far as the tow I had the basic 15 miles then it was additional cost, they actually waived that and paid the entire tow bill (40 plus miles).
Oh, yeah, I have had two tow’s (of a household vehicle) with Hagerty and it was pretty painless. I have the premium towing which covers not only your insured vehicles but also all of your household vehicles too, guaranteed flatbed towing, 150 mile coverage as I recall.
I had a tow claim under my Farmer’s policy last month, and it took a week for them to even respond and another two weeks for the reimbursement. Like Don said, insurance companies are working overtime due to the hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
I just switched my Cougar from a liability policy on Farmer’s to Hagerty last week, but it took two days before they called me to approve the policy, and the rep said they had a hold on the entire state of Texas right now due to the hurricane, so she had to verify that I hadn’t had any hurricane damage or claims before writing my policy.
Here’s how a typical claim goes with JC Taylor, whom I highly recommend.
Me: “I have a cracked windshield. A rock came from out of nowhere when I was driving on the freeway.”
JC Taylor: “Do you have an estimate of how much it will cost to get fixed?”
Me: “I am going to buy a new windshield and gasket and install it myself.”
JC Taylor: “Email a copy of the receipt and we will pay it.”
Me: “OK”
I bought my parts and sent them copies of the receipts by mail. A week later a check showed up.
I have had some fender benders, and a claim for hail damage that got me a new vinyl top and some chrome and a paint job. All the claims were handled in maybe 5 minutes talking on the phone total.
My only claim with Hagerty (been a customer for ~13 years) was for a windshield that picked up a tiny chip. I sent them the receipts for the (concours correct) part + installation, and they paid right away.
