I bought the upgrade kit from WCCC, is there a trick
To getting the hold down rings over the new headlight
Housing. I broke two rings
I use a stainless steel 12” machinist’s scale under the retaining ring on top of the glass. It makes the ring slip into place easily.
Do you slide the light housing ( which is attached to the spring) under the ring and try to slide the ring over the housing.
It seems hard to get the bottom screw in the housing.
I got one in by assembling the light outside the main housing and sliding the housing in the set Screws, and using pliers to get the spring on the ring, this was not easy.
No I put the bulb in place and the pull the retainer over the bulb.
The spring only attaches to the ring.
I will try to lubricant the ring
T-handle tool used for pulling dents works well to pull headlight springs.
Did you assemble the light and ring and than put it I the housing
There is a special tool made to attach the retaining spring. First put the bulb in place. Put the retaining ring in place and install the 2 screws. Then use the special tool to attach the spring to the retaining ring. Very easy.

I put the spring in place in the housing and in the hole in the ring, pull on the spring and put the screws in.
The tool looks like this:
