Headlight Adjusters Replacement?

On my 67, the headlight adjuster nuts that everyone sells do not hold up for some reason. they keep tearing the inserts out when trying to adjust the headlight side to side. I am using the factory springs and the factory attachment points. I am not sure why I have this issue.

I was thinking about making new ones out of sheet stainless and stainless nylok nuts.

If there is a demand, I will go ahead and buy a small bench top shear along with the roll of stainless wire for the mig gun and do a run of them while I have it all set up.

Would anyone be interested in this?

My goal is to make them look exactly like the originals, but all stainless and without inserts than can pull out.

Some type of anti-galling will have to be used on the threads when installing them though.

I’m not looking to have this to be my million dollar idea, though it would be nice if that happened. So I will have to come up with a price once I see what my investment in parts will be.

Humm, That’s strange that it’s pulling the nylon inserts…is it pulling the entire insert out or the threads. I’ve seen the bucket notches bend… Looking forward to seeing your solution with the nylock.

Can you get us a picture?
One of them needs to be shortened, otherwise it comes into contact with the door opening mechanism.

Here is the link that describes the mods that need to be done to the repros.

I just checked and double checked all of my adjusters with a mirror while opened and closed. Nothing is in a bind or touching the adjusters at any time yet I still manage to pull the screws out of the rubber insert of the adjuster bracket when bringing the headlights in towards the center so they are shining straight ahead and not into the lanes on each side of me.

Tomorrow will be R&D day of making my own out of the regular adjusting screw, and a stainless nylock nut welded to stainless plate that is the same size as the repro items. I really want my car to be able to be driven at night.
