I just purchased a new old stock headlight switch for our 1968 XR7. It’s been years since I’ve replaced one and have never done a Cougar with the vacuum ports. I was wondering if anyone might have any tips as the best way to access the switch or any other suggestions or tricks as to the best way to do the job. I do know that the 19961 bezel removal tool from WCCC is no longer available and was curious as to what everyone now uses to remove the bezel, as well as any other advice that would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your input.
Disconnect the battery before working on this. You will need to remove the LH side of the dash first. Then you will be able to rotate the headlamp knob fully counterclockwise, and depress the button on the bottom of the switch. The shaft will pull out of the switch.
Then using a #4 phillips screwdriver tip you can unscrew the bezel from the switch. Removing the switch connector and hoses are all that remain. Reverse to install.
