Is it possible to install the headliner without removing the front and rear glass?
no but do know removing and installing the glass is not as hard as people let on. Lots of how to videos showing the install on Mustangs.
Yeah, that’s true Don but its getting it not leak that is the tricky part. Skilled peeps to do this is hard to find. I still cant figure out for the life of me why the headliner gets wrapped around the flange that the gasket saddles ! How can that make for a good seal?
Just had my 65 yr old dad put my windows back in. I “helped” by holding the window.
He had the rubber gasket soaped really good and a nylon string in it. He claims the nylon slips out easier. He put it in in about 3-4 min tops. Back window the same way. But, he said to wait a few days to make sure all the soap/water dried out before adding any glue.
I do one about every 5 years so I am no pro. The 3m compound is more malleable than what the factory used and I find it engulfs the trim clips well and I do not leak after an entire tube is used on the windshield or most of a tube on the back glass. Keep in mind this product will never dry, a little moisture left behind should not matter, I used weed eater string with no water last time I did it, had to pull a little harder but no damage occurred to the seal.
It really is not difficult. You just need to know the correct order, what materials to use, and that it will take 40 hours if you do everything right and don’t waste any time doing it.
Be sure to use the acrylic butyl rubber on the clip area, not the permanent hardening silicone RTV. I use heavy kite string to pull the seal over the lip.
