So I watched the WCCC headliner replacement video, and I have a few questions.
My car is a 67 standard, and I have all the metal bows and the two metal hooks above the rear window, so I think all the hardware parts are there.
Is it possible to glue in the new headliner with the windshield and rear window in place or am I going to have to remove them for this project?
I currently have what looks like home fiberglass insulation hanging out of the current headliner. Should I stick with this puffy insulation or am I better removing that and gluing dynamat or something more modern to the ceiling?
Yeah, to do it right, it’s better to remove the glass, so you can work it around the flanges. As for the insulation, you can either cut some pieces of dynamat like you’re saying, or WCCC has a kit with pre-cut insulation pieces for the purpose (link) which you can affix with something like 3M trim adhesive (the spray on type).
The order of operations is frustrating because getting that headliner in would really make the car seem so much nicer, but if I have to pull the windows to do it, I might as well wait until I’m doing all the body work and ready to paint next year.
One thing leads to another. >> I was cleaning the inside of my windshield when I noticed a jagged nick in it, reminding me that I planned to replace the headliner when it was time for the windshield which already has a couple of other fairly stable nicks. As I was cleaning the top section at the headliner, there is a sticky brown goo all along the area of the windshield’s interior seal and the headliner.
I don’t think so. It’s more like a 1/4 inch (or so) bead of caulk and the discoloration is exactly the same throughout. There’s no indication of any cigarette smoking in the car - I bought it from the original owner.
