Heat Riser - Choke Tube Kit

1971 351C-2V

The first tube with insulation is connected to the choke and works as expected. Can someone tell me where the second tube (see green arrow) connects? It was not connected when I got the car and I see nothing in the vicinity to connect it to.

On my 351w the wrapped line goes into one side of the exhaust manifold and up to the choke. The other line goes into the other side of the exhaust manifold opposite the wrapped line and attaches to a vacuum source. I found this which shows how they attach.

On the 351C, the choke heater is in the passenger side of the intake manifold.

That’s correct, and the wrapped line is connected to the choke. It’s the other one that puzzles me.

Hot air gets pulled in through the choke by the carburetor vacuum, and that line gets the insulating wrap. The other line to the heater gets a metal tube inserted that connects to a vacuum hose. The vacuum hose is routed to inside the air cleaner through the carb plate that the air cleaner sits on. That line is nothing more than a source for filtered air that gets sucked through the choke heater and choke. Not sure why yours is pointed down at the front of the carb - it should point up at the rear of the carb.

Thanks again. I can see where it’s supposed to connect now through the carb top plate. Is there an easy way to pull out that tube and reset it? I don’t want to bend it.

Mine is just a press fit and easy to slide out. But I bet they can get pretty corroded in place. Carefully is probably the answer.

Yeah… looks like it’s been in there a long time. Thanks again for the info.

Maybe some penetrating oil and heat will let it rotate around to the correct position?
