Hello from Saskatchewan, Canada

Hello all. I’ve been lurking on this forum for quite some time now, just never subscribed as I was always able to find what I needed. I’m finally stumped. So before the questions, a little backstory first. This time last year I saved a 1977 xr7 from the crusher. Came to find there is only 19,000 miles on the clock… well maybe 119, but they were easy miles in that case. Here’s where it gets fun… almost the entire vaccuum system was removed, the head and tail lights were chopped for who knows what reasons, and to top it off it stunk like a family of skunks. Now for the questions, of which I have 3.

  1. is there any way to find my calibration code without emissions sticker? I have the carb setup sticker on Dr valve cover and jam stickers in both doors, vin type stuff on the drivers and tire specs on passenger.

  2. I cant remember the name of it but I have pieces of a sticker from the front side of the drivers valve cover, and it is my understanding it can be used to confirm your calibration code, which would be amazingly helpful at this point.

  3. where can someone find good service literature for these beautiful cars?

And in case its relevant, this is all for a 1977 xr7 with a 351m(bare bones stock) and fmx transmission.

Thanks in advance!

Do a google search and buying a factory service manual I’m sure would be a big help. might want to look at the 77 T-bird as it would be the same. No answer on the stickers.

Ok, thank you Brian. It was my understanding that there are over 20 variations of how these cars rolled off the line and was just curious what “stock” was for this car, and thought I needed my calibration code. What would you suggest for a service manual as any search I have done best I could find are books for the 335 series or the owners manual which wouldn’t really have much information, would it? Thanks again

This is what you need to look for.

You may be able to find a better deal on the books then this, or you could get a CD version

This covers all the cars for Ford, Mercury and Lincoln for the model year of 1977. I don’t have this year in my library, but I have about 8 or 9 years covered. I also have several Motor Manuals that come in really handy.

Most of us here are more into the 67 through 73 models, But most of us like the big Cougars too. I, for 1 am happy somebody is taking on the task of keeping one more alive.

Thank you very much! I definitely havent seen these!. I had seen the CD but was somewhat hesitant… are they the exact same as the books? Yes I had noticed most of the post were 1st and 2nd gens. I dream of a 69 ragtop in baby blue… and a dream it will likely stay! My first two kids are 83 chev half tons, but I couldn’t watch this old girl die. I used to think I knew a thing or two about turning wrenches, but I’m starting to realize I can only read a book! I was devastated when I couldn’t find a haynes manual, more so when I came online to see there isnt alot of consistent information out there for this era of cars. Thanks again!
