If the cat your looking at is the turquoise one, I know the car & did a bit of work on it.
Let us know…
The 68 std you mentioned to me https://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/DEN/787/1968-Mercury-Cougar#VLeft shows all the signs of being well loved and cared for. I do not even mind the chromed bits under the hood as it shows they loved their car. That being said, like most retail dealers, the car is almost $10k over priced and even though you might not see it, you will be putting a few thousand more into it starting with the manual drum brakes. Almost everyone wants power disc brakes up front these days. I believe their claim to 122k miles. Minor details throughout need attention, the side view mirror is mounted upside down, antenna was broken off at one point, all the black foil insert decals have faded to white (supposed to be black), front grille misaligned, most likely will need rear leaf springs in the near future and many other items can be expected to need attention given the age and miles. That being said, I would rather over pay on a tight car like this one than spend $8k on a beater and think you are going to turn it around for $20k.

I looked at it last year but thought it was over priced, wasn’t an XR-7, and not a big fan of the extra pin striping on hood and other areas. I was just there this past weekend for a Cars and Coffee event and walked around it, but didn’t dig in to it further.
It appears Bill may have better info on things that matter…body condition and such.
I’d be willing to go back if someone was serious about the car.
I’d highly suggest you look elsewhere. That particular dealer is notorious for pricing cars at 50% to 100% over market and not being very forthcoming on hidden issues.
Much better to reach out to this community and the closest local CCOA chapter to find a car.
The price is a lot more than the seller got. Typical on most everything today.
Nice cat. Drum brakes are new (all 4) Past owner took very good care, it was restored, very good driver.
The Coug I was interested in is the Turuoise one indeed:) It is advertised in Gateway Classics. Anything else you know about it??? THNX!
