Help with wheels and suspention

Hey all, brand new to not only cougars, but I am not at all a mechanic. My son and I got into a 67 cougar as a project car. One of the first things on the list was wheels, brakes and tires. We did the CSRP front disc conversion and purchased a set of Drag CR-73 wheels (17x7.5, 40mm offset). I bought a 1 inch spacer to reduce the backspacing to 4.25 inches, but even with it installed, the wheel is only about 1/2 inch away from the upper control arm. Will it hit the control arm when I drive or does the spindle move together with the upper arm and as long as it clears im fine?
I am willing to get different wheels if need be, but i was hoping there was something i could do to avoid having to buy smaller 6 inch wide rims. I am just unsure what I should be doing, and dont know who to ask. Also we like the restomod stuff so the car being original isnt important. Any help would be appreciated

I put 17x7 - 235/45zR17 front
17x8 245/45ZR17 rear
No clearance issues

what offset did the wheels have? and with the 17 inch wheels are you at all close to the upper control arm?

I’ll check tomorrow when I’m at the shop regarding the A arm clearance.
Wheels applied:
American Racing VN 2157866 rear
VN 2157765 front

Spindle and wheel move with the control arm. If you have a 1/2" clearance or more through a full swing, that should be fine.

With the above wheel/ tire description, just over 1/2” clearence.
Hope this helps.

typically for 17"s you want 4" front and 4.5" rear backspacing
