Hertz G Breather Lid (390GT) - Chrome for Ford Blue

I am shopping for a breather for my Hertz-G (390GT engine). I am not quite sure if the breather lid is blue or chrome. I’ve seen examples of both on Hertzs cars. Just not sure which is correct.

I’m not certain about the air cleaner lid for 1968 Cougars, but in 1969 the lid ( for the 390-4V I.P. ) could be supplied chromed if the engine 'dress-up" kit was ordered. Otherwise blue.

The Hertz XR7-G had the blue air cleaner assembly. Lids were blue.

$500 if you’re interested. Really a nice piece.

“DroptopCougr”
He better buy it. That’s a good price.

I am SOOO interested in it. PM sent.

I’m sure that the assembly that DroptopCougr is offering would look great but as per Royce the Hertz XR7-G had the blue air cleaner assembly. Are also nice chrome lid reproductions available.

So if you are looking for “totally correct”, this is from a lovely one that crossed Macan’s block. 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7-G Hertz for Sale at Auction - Mecum Auctions and would be right for your kitty.

I bought it as the price is quite reasonable. My plan is to replace the lid when the time comes.

Fun Fact: The car you referenced was from the same dealership as mine. I’m sure they sat side by side at Hertz somewhere in the Camden, NJ area.

Looks like they may have ordered as many as 4 of them according to the DSO Item #.

The thing is, that close to New York City there could be 20 cars delivered. Could be there were many other dealers.

There seems to be quite a few leap day Hertz cars. What does the registry say?

Camden is on the other side of the river from Philadelphia. So maybe they were rented there ?

My car was recovered from a salvage yard in Camden. Wondering when the lease was over for these cars, would they be returned to their dealer of origin?

PS: the registry entry for 8F93S547005 has the wrong DSO according to the marti report. should be 168050.

Fun Fact: my door tag has a typo: shows DSO 1608051.

Looks like there may also have been a black one, 547009. it was crushed in the mid-80’s.

The owner most likely turned it in at the selling dealer. It was not a requirement but the selling dealer was typically close to the Hertz rental place so more than likely.

I don’t know the answer to Scott’s question. Unlike Pinkerton I did not buy all the information that Kevin had at the time so unless every car has a Marti report we will never know.

Being the curious type, I just ordered standard marti reports for 8F93S547006 & 8F93S547007 and the deluxe report for 8F93S547009. I will pass them along when I get them.

manyc - thanks for the heads up on the typo to the door tag on S547005, I will update the registry (I have taken over from Royce who has moved over to the GT-E registry). And thanks for ordering the other Martis’ - please do share with the registry.
