I recall a while back a news article about an aviation engineer (I think that’s what he was) who still drives his original 67 or 68 Cougar with about a zillion miles on it. Ok, he wins. But I’m curious to see who here has driven his/her cat the most. I’m talkin’ miles you (and maybe your spouse, significant other, co-owner, or the like) has personally driven your car, not its overall mileage. Since acquiring my 68 in 2004, I’ve clocked 49,000 miles! I got the car with just over 66K showing on the odometer. Anyone top that?
I might be the least…had my car five years, only 238 miles…LOL.
I know I’m no where near the miles that a lot of guys have done. But I got it with 52K on the clock in 1978. When I ripped the running gear out of in 1989 I was at 95K.
At that point I reset the odometer back to ZERO because every moving part was going to be brand new. Since then with a 2 year break while I redid everything BUT the moving parts, I’m about to roll into 30K this coming season. Tha majority of those miles came in a series of years (1995-2001) when I was single and no kids.
If we round it to 70K, that’s a fair assessment. It was never meant to be a daily driver OR a show car either.
How about 90 miles the one week I had her on the road? Hoping to get her on the road for Summer.
Here is a link to the Boeing engineer who has put 718,000 miles on his Cougar. Very cool! My hats off to you guys that can drive your Cougar’s everyday. I want to do a restromod in the future and use it as a daily driver.

Thanks for the link. The pic at the top of the article is apparently not his car as it’s a 69 and the article states in several places that his car is a 67- plus the fact that the article is dated 2010 and the author says he’s had it for 43 years. Does anyone here know this guy? He’d be a great guest of honor at a Cougar show. At the very least, we should send him some beer.
It’s a 67 XR 7. Neat video on the owner. Very cool.

Very cool video. If he received 9 free mufflers, that means he has had at least 11 mufflers on the car: 1 original + 1 purchased with lifetime warranty + 9 free. Do mufflers really only last 65,000 to 70,000 miles?
I liked the part of the video when he said the young women were looking at him while he was driving, “he said I’ve still got it”. Then they said nice car.

I’ve put about 65000 miles on my '68 since '82. Drove it 1800 miles one way 3 times in the early '90s. It was a daily driver for me between '91 and '95.
