Horn doesn't work on my '69 XR7

I have looked around and pushed everything, not a rim blow, but nothing seems to move on it. How are they supposed to work? Thanks for any help.

You sure it’s not a rim-blow? Not 100%, but I thought the XR-7 wheel was. It’s designed so that you push the inside of the rim with your thumb to sound the horn. When the switches go bad, they beep at odd times, so some folks disconnected them.

Ha! Thank you! Yes, I guess it is a rim blow, it wasn’t listed as an option on my Marti, but guess it was covered in the XR7 package. However, as I tried pushing the inside, rubbery seam on the inside of the wheel, it only seems to beep at the top of the wheel. Should it work all along that seam?

WCCC did a video for replacing it. Might be of interest to you…

The 69 fits a little loose, easy to install and we havethe good one.

It should work all along the seam. Back in the day, mine only worked in some spots too.

Don can hook you up with a replacement switch.

Thanks guys, looks like what I need to do next.

Just throwing this out there, not sure if the 69 is similar to the 73 but on mine I had issues when both horns (yes there are 2 on mine) were connected, when I unplugged either 1 the rim blow works fine. :smoke:

I have two horns, and they are both hooked up and work when I press those spots on the wheel where the switch works. After lots of pressing, they work on several spots around the rim, so may leave it for now while I try to figure out the power windows.

Possible current draw problem. Have had this happen with regular horn switch. Corrosion builds up on the metal switch parts and can’t carry enough current for two horns. Also the connector under the steering column can be corroded. If you don’t want to change out the rim blow you could add a 12 volt relay on the radiator support to run the as many horns as you want (done this too).
