I have not found this topic elsewhere. I have a 1968 XR7 302 4V completely restored. Initially the horn would not work but after some adjustment it was fine until I went for a drive! Every time I took a left turn the horn would blow and not quit until taking a right. Then it happened both ways. I disconnected it last fall, replaced some parts this summer and for about 3 hours it was fine last week. Then on the way home it happened again. Left turn, and a lot of dirty looks! The young lady didn’t appreciate the gray old fart honking at her. Help me avoid further embarrassment by solving this issue.
Is the factory steering wheel being used ?
Not a Grant wheel by any chance?
The factory wheel is being used and was refurbished in Red Ear, Alberta. But it is the original tilt column and has been pulled apart once to try and correct the problem.
This being a tilt- tilt away column close attention needs to be paid to ensure the actuating mechanism is properly seated. Ensure the actuator nipple is seated in the hole in the upper knuckle. Then align the locator pins to the turn signal switch and put the screws in.
If the nipple is not seated in the hole properly you can have problems with the emergency flasher, horn, and/or turn signals.
this is a picture of the actuator showing the nipple https://secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/q2c29.html
Thanks I will try your suggestions, although I am certain it was put in correctly. I imagine it could have slipped out of place.
