"Hot" Wire Question

68 XR7 non-ac, non-tilt wheel.

While tracing wires under the dash, I discovered the pinkish wire that has a rubber cover over it was getting on the warm-to-hot side while the engine was off and the key was in the on position. It looks like the wire goes up towards the dash and then converts to a green/yellow stripe?

Usually a hot/warm wire is not a good thing, but this one has that rubber cover. Wasn’t sure since I was troubleshooting other wiring issues with the car. I do have the wiring diagram from WCCC.

That’s the infamous pink resistor wire, and it should get warm to the touch. However, it is not a good idea to have the key in the RUN position without the engine running, as that will burn up your points and possibly your coil.

Thank you for that information, I learn something new everyday!

Me too, but I may have Alzheimer’s. I find I have a new wife every morning!
