Does this kit make a significant difference to the steering? I’ve never been happy with the imprecise steering on my XR7.
Thanks, Dale.
What kit are you considering? I didn’t see anything steering specific.
The factory power assist system is most likely the culprit. WCCC has a video to troubleshoot the most common issues. https://youtu.be/69idxXfXJv4?si=djtL4bueG19Usx7u
That being said, even in perfect condition the factory system feels overboosted and imprecise compared to modern cars. The best solutions would be switching to a Borgeson steering box or maybe one of the many rack and pinion kits out there.
Also check the caster value on your front end alignment. The low caster values were intended for bias ply tires, if you use them with radials you’ll have no return to center and wandery steering. Look here for more radial friendly alignment specs: Tech Information – Opentracker Racing
To the above point about the borgeson. It is 14:1 ratio and stock gears are 18:1….quite the improvement
I never liked my factory power steering. It was in good shape and nothing wrong with it but did not care for the feel
I went with an electric steering option and have liked it so far. Its nice being able to adjust the level of assist as desired.
Would love to see some photos of your setup.
