Houndstooth Vinyl Top

Anyone have any idea how many 67 Cougars came with Inverness Green paint, houndstooth vinyl roof, and saddle interior?

I’m not aware that the houndstooth vinyl top was available in 1967 - so that is new to me.

Do you have a Marti that calls that out?

-would love to see it.

That would be zero since that was only an option in 1970.

Maybe they saw this pic of the top…

Oh my. That’s different.

I owned the car back in the early 70s. I was a 67 GT, 390 automatic. It was Inverness green with a saddle interior, green and white houndstooth vinyl roof. Bought the car used from Thornton Motors, Bloomington, Il. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures.

Maybe the owner before you liked the 70 houndstooth pattern so well, they had one put on their 67. Green and white houndstooth vinyl top wasn’t even a factory option in 70, just black and white or black and brown.

Dealers were doing all kinds of stuff on used cars. Ford actually had a program of “Branded” Mustangs with crazy vinyl tops for new and late model used Mustangs. Could be a dealer did something similar with a few used Cougars.

If you can locate the VIN number in some old paperwork like insurance docs you could send off for the most inexpensive Marti Report.

That would tell you how the car originally came from the factory.

Once a car has changed hands a time or two, then all bets are off regarding originality.

Wow - green houndstooth would actually have been mild compared to some of those crazy vinyl tops! Attaching an original ad for the 70 houndstooth Cougar from the Feb 28, 1970 New Yorker magazine.

I recently parted and scrapped a 70 with a houndstooth top. I have the top moulding if anyone needs it. (248) 867-3522
