My 68 XR7 has been repainted. How would I find out if it came with a pinstripe and what color would it be?
All 1968 Cougars came with pin stripes. What color is your car?
it is caribbean blue poly iām guessing the stripe is white
True, your pin stripes were white originally. Mercury limited pinstripe colors to white, black and red in 1968.

Even thought it has a black vinyl top?
The color of the vinyl top had nothing to do with the color of the pin stripes.

White cars were the difference between having red or black pin stripes. Some white cars if they had a black interior got black stripes. If those same cars got red interiors they got red pin stripes. Some times - it seems the fellow installing the pin stripes had some sort of system that is lost today.
