1968 X7R X-Code built in San Jose. While I have the whole front suspension out I am considering cleaning up and redoing the front wheel wells. I tend towards the “it’s only original once” when it comes to body/chassis. Do these wheel wells have the original factory finish or has some post treatment/undercoating been applied? TIA
It looks pretty normal. The factory would assemble everything except the wheels. With the wheels off they would spray black sealant on the undersides of the front fenders, rear towards the inner fender / firewall / door jamb area, and in the rear wheel wells. Then you have 50+ years of dirt and tar on top of that.
