How do you remove and replace trim between fron and rear windows?

The chrome trim, on the drivers door glass? It is still connected to the glass- I don’t know if there is an adhesive remover that needs to be used first, or can you just tap it off, and then on to the other piece? Is there a recommended adhesive needed to reinstall on another window?

Is it a Cougar? What year?

Yes, it is mg 69 Cougar

I am not sure if the factory used any kind of adhesive to hold the weatherstrip retainer onto the glass or not. I do know that I have found more than one of them laying in the bottom of the door as they just fell off on their own. I will offer a word of caution though if you try to tap it off or on to a piece of glass. This retainer is actually two separate pieces of metal that are spot welded together.and I have seen more than one of them come apart. Tapping on this trim piece my cause it to break apart. So be very careful if you try it.

The factory did use a adhesive. Ive used 3M channel bond.

Tip. The top of the piece(s) have a piece of metal bent over. It becomes a snag of your clothes or skin. I remove the tab (if not already gone) then file or grind a radius so it no can no longer catch anything. Carefully put the trim onto the glass. It will fit tight. Use a rubber mallet to tap it onto the glass. Tape overnite to let adhesive set

.

Thanks Bill- My original drivers window fell out of the channel, and then I remembered I had a spare, with the blocks still mounted. But the new/old piece is missing this piece. I’m going to try and find some time in the near future, but my free time is pretty non existent.

I use a 1x2 piece of wood to drive the trim piece off the glass. As mentioned, only drive from the metal on the glass, not the trim its self.
