Guys,
Has anyone attempted to restore an original hood liner?
Mine is pretty decent but is missing two small patches around the forward center fastener and the forward right fastener - see the picture below. I need to replace the material in those two sections, and add something or coat the rest of the linerto stiffen it and flatten the loose fibres. Is there an adhesive or paint product that would achieve this?
Any suggestions?
Mike

I restored the one on my XR7-G a few years ago. The one I have didn’t have missing pieces. I would try and cut some pieces out of a different hood blanket and try super gluing them on. As far as the rest of the blanket and holding the fibers together. I used some air blew most of the dirt I could out of the blanket. Also used the shop vac to get it as clean as possible. Then I sprayed it with some black paint and while it was still tacky. I took a piece of wax paper and rubbed over it to bond the fibers back together. So far it has held up good.

Mike the method that Brian used on his hood blanket sounds like a good route to take. I would add one thing to replacing pieces from a spare/donor blanket. After adding the new replacement piece on the backside of the hood blanket I would add a metal mastic tape used in HVAC. I have used this tape many times in the construction field when joint fiberglass duct board. It is very similar to DynaMat sound deadener. I think it would give a stronger repair in addition to what Brian suggested. Here is a link to the tape I’m talking about. You should be able to find it in most HVAC supply houses.

Our local supplier sells it by the roll so I sure it is probably the same way down under.

Thanks guys, some good ideas there. I need to hunt down a junk liner for some extra material. And yes we do have metal mastic tape, used for flashing gutters etc.
