Can someone please tell me the proper way to test the upper/lower ball joints on my 67? I seem to remember some cars were checked by placing a floor jack under the LCA, and using a jack handle or old torsion bar under the wheel and using it to check for play. Whilke others were checked by placing the jack under the frame rail. Thanks in advance.
Place a Block of wood between the Upper control arm, and the Frame, and lift the car by the frame. then use your Prybar/old tosion bar to check for any up/down movement.
If you don’t block the control arm, the upper ball-joint binds just enough that you would pass it as good, even if it wasn’t.
Thanks, that’s what I thought, but it’s been a while. I just looked at them now, it’s amazing how loose the uppers are, while the lowers look pretty sound.
Uppers are the load bearing joints. That is why they wear more than the lowers.
