Hey all,
I am currently looking to put an AC system into my 1967 cougar that was a base model with no AC from the factory. It’s a standard 289.
The kit I am eyeing to purchase/install: A/C System Complete Repro
Will I need to swap out the smaller radiator in the car to a larger capacity one, as well as a larger fan blade?
Has anyone purchased/installed this specific kit? Or know anyone that has? Any feedback or reviews possibly available?
Thank you all!
When I installed an aftermarket A/C system in my 1969 351W I upgraded the radiator to the 24" radiator (was a 20" 4-blade system) with the 5 blade fan and clutch that is used on the big blocks. I would suggest you do something similar. I would look to see what size radiator a 1967 with A/C came with and upgrade to that setup.
I would imagine it would be possible since it would have been engineered for that specific car model. It will definitely add to the total cost of the upgrade as my mod was not cheap!
Here is some friendly advise on the A/C system you choose…
Pay attention to how they get the belt on the compressor, the system I bought used the same belt as the PS pump, compromising the belts ability to power either. I ended up adding a 3-belt Crank (Ford Stock item) and water pump (aftermarket) pulley to have a separate belts for the A/C and the PS.
This also required a modification for the Compressor mounting bracket that they supplied, so nothing is ever as easy as advertised.
Here’s the Classic Auto Air’s offering for a 1967 Cougar (just another option to consider)…
