I’d hate to hear that engine when fired

VGG has been doing this for a very long time and he learned how to do it from his father and other racers in the pits.
Makes perfect sense when you think about it.

That’s exactly how I was taught. I’ve done that to quite a few and never had any problems, or wiped out cams.
But, once you change rockers to rollers or different heads, you must check pushrod length, roller tip. Etccc.

I think that for a new engine that has never been run, this is the way to go. There is another, similar video where the guy brings up a couple of good points. Like, be sure to PRIME the engine, and make sure your distributor is stabbed properly. And, perhaps most importantly in today’s world, be sure and add at least one bottle of ZDDP. For the new 302 I have on the stand, this is the guy that I followed.

I had always done the intake open, exhaust closed before, and have had problems. Now, I can’t verify WHY I had issues, but I did. So, for the fresh motor in the 69, I did it this way.
