I got my new valve seals and spring compressor yesterday, so I started the task of replacing them today. It is a pain in the butt to do it with the engine in the car on a few of them because of the shock towers, but I managed to get it done, but not without a big knot on the nugget. I was having a hard time getting one of the retainers to center up when I was putting the locks back in. Next thing I know, my oil covered hand slipped off the handle. With 650 lbs worth of spring pressure pushing back on the compressor, the handle snapped back and popped me right in the forehead, just above my left eye. After the stars faded, I took a BC, ate some dinner, and collected my thoughts. Then went back at it. Thankfully the handle is rubber coated on the end.
Aside from the injury, it when pretty well. I am hoping that this will solve my smoking when cold issue. I noticed oil pooling up on the intake valves, so I am sure that this will be the issue. The new ones, though they are the same seals, seem tighter. I think the old ones may have gotten stretched out from the mutiple disassemble and reassembles that the machine shop did. I also found a couple that look like weren’t pressed all the way down on the valve guide. Looks like another machine shop booboo.
