T colour code on the tag thanks
Congrats on your purchase!
According to Kevin Marti’s “Cougar …by the Numbers”, for 1970 XR-7 convertible there were 190 built with Red paint. There were also 380 Standard convertibles built with Red paint.
Cool thanks
This car has 20 options is that rare for a car to have that many? Just trying to figure if the car is worth it to buy
It has a 351c 4v m code motor
Provide a list ( for the benefit of forum members ) of these 20 options, and people will join the thread to help you determine the rarity of those options. Things like door edge guards, floor mats, appearance protection group and an AM stereo-sonic ( aka 8 track ) radio - no so much. Options like AM/FM stereo radio, A/C, power ( “side” ) windows or ‘posi-trac’ / limited slip differential, 4 speed manual transmission, interval wipers more so.
Like gah said, some options are more common than others. However, that is a pretty long list!
If you have a Marti Report, or a copy of the factory invoice, please post a picture of it for us to drool over. Likewise if you have any pics of the car
I highly recommend the kevin marti ELITE report. Youll get how many were built, and possibly at the end of the report there may be 1 option that car has that none of the others did come with. Like my 70 convertible, its a triple white and they made 24 of them in this color combination. BUT its the only 1 that came with wire wheel hubcaps. So definitely get the elite report, you
ll thank yourself afterwards.
thanks

Morning I purchased a 1970 cougar xr-7 convertible the marti report states it came with 7 options but this car has 20 options the old owner said the dealer put the eliminator package options on the car. It has everything the eliminator would have but the 428 . Has anyone heard of this being done. Not sure how to find out actually how this car ended up with all these options any ideas??? Thanks
Interesting that a dealership would add eliminator parts to a convertible. That was never an option from Ford to my knowledge. I know I have added a few options to my car. I added a factory tilt column and factory power windows. You would be amazed how easily parts bolt on.
Without paperwork, anything being added purportedly added by the dealer is just a story. Most 1970 eliminators came with the 351 Cleveland like yours. The eliminator package had a number of different trim and stripe items, so you can’t just “add options” to make one. It’s common during a restoration of a desirable car for it to have options added to it from parts cars, vendors, swap meets, etc. Has been happening since the first cars hit the junkyards after accidents.
Sounds like a nice car either way. Share some photos and the group here can be of more help.
