I think I'm done... where's the best place to sell 1967 DGS these days?

NOT looking to sell anything in this thread, just looking for my best options.

It’s been 24 years of ownership of a nice driver, occasional fixes, and now the thermactor pump is starting to “chug”. I don’t work on my cars so much any more, and I’m tired of (although grateful for) paying someone else to do it. I’m just depressed by the whole thing and ready to move on.

We’ve all been there, but usually walk back from the brink. If you do want to sell, a classic car dealer that takes cars on consignment or Facebook marketplace are popular choices. More people exiting the hobby than entering right now, so cars that are well priced usually sell while the others sit, unless they’re a rare performance model. Just my opinion others may see it differently.

It’s spring time so maybe check to see if there are swap meets happening in your area that have a car coral. That is a good place to get the word out that your car is available and may sell in a weekend with competition.

Must have been a California DSO Cougar. (1967 with Thermactor) Not that hard to bypass the pump. Do you have emission testing?

Nope, that’s not an issue. I think the biggest problem is finding the proper a/c adjustable pulley to install in place of the thermactor. I’m not seeing those on line any more at all, except kind of sketchy looking ones on the e-auction site that may (or may not) be any good. Did you have other thoughts on bypassing the pump?

MustangTek shows this pulley and bracket for AC cars without smog. I have the idler pulley if you need it but unfortunately not the tensioner of its’ bracket. I had a smog AC car so I am familiar with the challenge. Any pics of your car?

Hold up, maybe I’ve just been running confused?

I always thought the PUMP was being used for belt tension, and that I’d have to replace it if I removed the pump. That’s what the 1967 engine manual shows for the thermactor; the belt runs from the A/C pump directly to the thermactor. But mine has an adjustable pulley mounted on the A/C bracket, which doesn’t appear at all in the engine manual (mine is a VERY late ‘67 build, though). And actually it’s currently providing only trivial tension at the moment since it’s all the way “down”.

Can I just leave the pump as-is, and run a shorter belt over the A/C, crank, and the two existing pulleys???

I don’t believe so because the belt won’t clear the water pump pulley. AC cars without smog had the tensioner on the opposite side of the water pump from where yours currently is.
