Hi All,
I have a 1967 Cougar that I’m in the process of getting back up and running. I’m definitely not a mechanic but with some direction I can make most things work. I am replacing the ignition coil and the new one comes with a ballast resistor. As far as I can see the old one doesn’t have one. Does that sound correct? I can add pictures if it is helpful.
Ford did not use an external resistor, they used the famous ‘pink wire’. This is a special wire between the ignition switch and the coil that does the job of the external resistor - it’s just part of the circuit rather than an external component.

Thanks for this info. I will see if I can track down my pink wire. Car had an external resistor installed when I got it.
