Ignition Key cylinder replacement

I can’t find any posts or videos on how to replace the key cylinder lock with tilt wheel on a 1973 Cougar. Any and all help would be appreciated

This might help. If not do a search for 71-73 Mustang as should be the same.

He is asking about the key cylinder. That one is for the switch. I haven’t found one for the lock cylinder yet.

I cannot help you with a video but I can tell you this, with or without a tilt column does not affect how you change the key cylinder. First disconnect your battery. Then you will need to remove the steering wheel. Then you will have to pull the turn signal switch at least part way out. With the turn signal switch out of the way you will be able to see the hump that the key cylinder is under. There will be a small hole in the top of that hump. You will need a small pin punch that fits into that hole. Turning the key in the cylinder will align a release pin with that hole. Use the pin punch to push the release pin down and the cylinder will pull straight out of the housing.

Can you detail how you were able to remove/replace the cylinder?

Thanks

I did pull the steering wheel, but I don’t think now it was necessary. The hole to get to the release pin is assessable by the hazard switch, but it is difficult to see. Turn switch to on position, push in pin and the cylinder pulls right out. The link I posted shows and describes everything in detail. Hope this helps.
