Ignition switch plug/wiring/alternator wiring

I just put in a new ignition switch and new plug, went to try to start the car, but I just hear the relay click, no starter, double checked all wires and they are correct
There is an extra red/white wire that i did not use

Chi need to confirm the wires going to my alternator
Is there a wire that goes to the STA terminal on the back of the alternator
Is there supposed to be a single black wire that goes directly to the back of the alternator, if so where does it go

Ooops - revised to be correct!

Single black wire - there isn’t one on the XR-7.

Here is what the XR-7 alternator wiring looks like for 1968. Notice the stator post is unused. The ground wire is a double wire going to a single terminal on the alternator.

Thank you Royce that is how I have it, I am getting 14.4 volts across the battery. Could you tell me what voltage I should get at the+ of the coil and how I check this. I have the rebuilt tach from rocket man in my car.

Spec is 13.7 - 14.2 volts so you are good. At the coil I would expect around 10 volts with the engine running.

I need to double check this voltage
Thank you

Does any know if the standard wiring pigtail replace to for the ignition switch will work on an XR7 car

The XR7 has an ammeter, and the ignition switch wiring is subtly different between a car with an ammeter and one with an alternator indicator lamp. For Mustangs, there are two versions: one for and one without a tach, but for 67-70 Mustangs, tachs don’t come with ammeters and standard dashes do come with ammeters.

Thank you I found the XR7 wiring diagram so I can see if I can see the difference in the wiring. I also ordered an XR7 plug.
