Ok cougar experts. On the 1970 cougar ignition key switch on the column, does the word “lock” have a depression around the word “lock”, like a little rectangle or not. I have seen both but not sure what is correct.
2 70’s one an XR7 other a Standard Eliminator just the letters lock no indent no rectangle.
Any other opinions or verifications of other cars. Why/what is the difference?
I’ll look at mine today and get back this evening.
Bump back up. SO nobody else has another 70 cougar to help determine what was exactly is correct? Was this a Dearborn vs San Jose plant thing? Why the difference? There is a definitely a difference… Don, John B.,Royce, cougar gurus?
You also have a very big possibility IMHO of a third option - NOS/service replacement and possible difference in those depending on who got that contract and for what period of time.
Not unusual for those parts to have differences as you describe. Turn signal (4 way flashers) assembles were different - as an example
Truth be told, I notice 4 different variations of the column ignition cylinder. Two each, depressed and non-depressed.
Mine are all loose in a box, not in steering columns. So all I can say is, that they came from 1970 to mid-late 1973.
Is this what you are talking about?
If your lock is depressed, I would recommend Prozac.
I haven’t had a good laugh in a long time, but that did it. ( and still laughing)
The “LOCK” on my 70 XR7 looks the same at the picture above
Yes, bsbeck, that’s what I’m referring to. Yes mine switch is “depressed” from not being turned on to start my car in over 6 years. Cougarcj, pictures dude, pictures of the four different one’s please. Curios minds want to know.
Check this out…
I had posted earlier a pic from my 70 Eliminator but my brother came by today in his 70 XR7 convertible and I’m just looking it over and BAMMM!!! There’s the depression around the word LOCK on his column. I told him about the discussion on the forum and he said his wasn’t factory and had been replaced over the years.
