I'm b-a-a-a-a-a-ck...

Might have to change my name though…LOL
After a long hiatus from the Cougar community, I am about to rejoin again as I just finalized the purchase of another cat today and should have in my hands by this time next week. The 'verts are gone as is the '71. The new purchase I guess could be called a rag-bottom as she is a pretty rusty critter, but the one thing I have now that I have never had before is a nice warm/dry garage to put her in and take my time with her without her getting any worse. I still lead a pretty busy life, and probably won’t be on here every day and maybe not even every week, but look forward to re-uniting with my many friends in the Cougar community and meeting new ones.
The new cat is a plain jane 289 2v '67 that has been sitting in the weather for a while. Floor pans are pretty much gone and some rust in the typical places but a blank canvas for me to play with. Pictures, especially of the roof look worse than she actually is. A lot of surface rust on the top, but doesn’t appear to be rust through. It has vinyl top trim, but I see no evidence of there ever having been a vinyl top on her. I’m thinking she might have been a two-tone? Paint code appears to be km? I will know and post more after I get her home next week, but here is a preview of how she sits today.
Not sure, but I think clicking on any of the pictures might take you to my photobucket page…
Thanks
Chuck

Hi Chuck, welcome back!

I have just completed the short block assembly of my 408 stroker (using the block I got from you!). I photographed the partial VIN on the back of the block, looks to have been from a '70 Cougar (and is a D0AE block).

Hope all is well.

Robert

Holy crow, it’s Chuckie! Hey, how you liking the Big 12, Chuck??

Welcome back. Glad you found one to save.
It may look rough, but most of that will buff right out.
Cool headrest seats. I’ve yet to see any 67/68 headrest seats in person. For the life of me I don’t know why more people didn’t order them.

Yes, welcome back!

Your two-letter paint code does indeed verify the two-tone paint option. The M denotes white as the secondary color, i.e., the top; K denotes Caspian (dark) Blue. I think that’s a nice color combination.

A much older cousin had a Moosetang with that combo that was indeed very sharp. I can’t remember if it was white paint, or white vinyl on his top, however, and he’s no longer with us to ask. Regardless, sharp combo.

Hi Chuck

Welcome back

Have you still got those Paseo door panels?

Headrests were not an option in 67. My guess is that they are 69 seats. Welcome back Chuck. Congrats on the new purchase.

Good to know. Thanks Randy.

Thanks Guys. It is good being back. Bob-Glad you were able to put the block to good use. MO-Being in the Big 12 is nice. Hopefully we will become a little more competitive in football soon!! LOL Leon. Nope no more Paseo door panels.
Dennis-Thanks for the confirmation on the paint code. I kept telling the guy I am buying from it looked like a 2 tone but he was sure it had had a vinyl top on it and was taken off before he got it. As for the seat…no clue. She is actually being delivered to me next Monday. I bought it from about 45 minutes or so of where I live and price included getting her to me. Engine cranks and has fire at the distributor, but it hasn’t been started in many years…
Thanks again for the welcome folks!
Chuck

Welcome back Chuck. Cool project.

Thanks Chris. The bug has been biting for a long time. I actually discovered this one about 5 or 6 months ago on CraigsList. I called the guy up but never went to look at it. It reappeared a couple of weeks ago, but at a lower price. I didn’t even realize it was the same car until I e-mailed requesting pictures be e-mailed or text to me. When the pics were text to me and came in on the same # that I had text and talked to on the phone previously, I knew. Even though when I had talked to the PO and he had made it sound like a really really rough rust bucket with multiple problems, I decided to go take a look at it. He was an overly honest individual, and in my opinion had really made her sound a lot worse than she really is. It has issues obviously, but I felt not as bad as I previously was led to believe. My intentions are to try and put everything I have learned over the years to use and finally do one from start to finish all, or pretty much all on my own. This in all likely hood will be my last cat, so I want to just take my time and, at the end of the journey, be able to say that I did it myself. I’m looking forward to the adventure regardless of where it takes me…

Glad to see it Chuck, and happy to hear you got the old gal running. Our '67 has been a lot of fun over the 7+ years we’ve owned it, I’m sure you’re in for a good experience as well.
