Inside Dull Body Paint-Is it The Same Paint Code As Exterior?

I have an original “red” 1969 Cougar. Is the dull inside body paint of these cars the same paint code as the exterior except its a flat or matte mix? If the paint code is the same, interior/exterior, can any paint & body store mix it and if so what do you ask for? Thanks

The dull inside body paint came later with clearcoat finishes. Inside doors didn’t get the final clearcoat so they look dull. Back in the days of our Cougars, the factory used the same shiny body paint everywhere the body paint color was applied. You should be able to give your auto paint store the factory color code and year, and get some mixed for you. Adding picture of shiny inside door jamb.

Sorry I don’t quite understand. The car doesn’t seem to have clear anywhere. I believe the car has only been painted once and it was exterior only. Maybe the interior paint has just faded with age.

Pics would help

Whatever the cause, dull inside the doors is not something you would want to replicate. Inside of doors should be nice and shiny and exactly match the exterior body paint.

I’ll have to get one tomorrow. But when you pull off a panel inside the car the red paint is flat or matte. This is the case with every old car I’ve owned. Like when you pull out the back seat the paint of body(even floor pans) is not glossy like the exterior finish, like in my case red.

Inside surfaces were less glossy where the overspray was thin (pics of my 70). And they used flat red oxide primer that was still visible in places on my car. But overspray areas were the same shiny pain as the body had.
