installed passenger side mirror

Using those rubber rivets, I got this installed. It was somewhat problematic because one of those rivets got distorted. Ultimately, I just enlarged the hole a tiny bit, wrapped it in electrical tape and got it to work right.

If you could get an extra third rivet with the kit plus instructions, it would’ve been much easier, not taken up the entire afternoon.

It is crucial to make sure that the rim of the rubber rivet isn’t higher then the gasket under the mirror. There isn’t enough room under the rear of the mirror to accommodate the extra height.

To do this, you need to enlarge the holes in the gasket so it can go around the rivet.

Here’s some pics.

I’m glad you got the mirror to work for you. The pictures are not showing in your post.

I just put a review there. They can be made to work but are far more tricky then they appear to be.

If I had to do it again (or re-mount the mirror) I’d try the metallic rivets instead even though some specialty tools are needed.

I put the pics into the first bpost. SD card in phone malfunctioned.

The other little detail is that you have to mount the mirror one or two inches further back then the driver’s mirror or it’ll be blocked by the vent windows.

That looks far more natural then bending out the neck to the most extreme extent. Believe it or not, many cars have the passenger mirrors minted slightly more to the rear then the driver’s one.

Hey that’s a very good tip! I have always been a stickler for having it match up with the driver side one exactly but now that you mention it I’m gonna start looking at other cars to see how they are indexed. I might have to redo my video.

the metal inserts are the way to go, You can pick up the tool at harbor freight for cheap and its worth it. I had to fix my driver side that had the factory nutserts which caused the hole to be larger then intended. I tried the rubber ones that fit the oversized hole and used factory hardware but the mirror moved too much for my taste. I ended up getting a selection of nutserts and finding one that fit the larger whole and just used hardware to match. Much more solid.

good tip on mirror location, I have a passenger side mirror for mine too but have not mounted it. I did not really want to drill my door! If I cant have it lined up the same as the driver side I may not install it. like don said that lack of symmetry might drive my OCD crazy!

They look like they are in the same place from inside of the car because from the driver’s seat, the angle to the vent windows is almost identical.

If you put them in the same place on the outside, the passengers mirror looks like it’s too far forward behind the vent window.

My goal is to keep the line of sight the same from the inside. If some UFO alien flying overhead gets offended, that’s actually a good thing!! That’s really the only weird angle that could occur. People walking around the vehicle probably won’t notice.

I’ll have to give the mirror itself a perfect review.

Either way, the factory never intended to put one there so it boils down to artistic freedom in a way.
